Ins and Outs of Interviews for Wharton EMBA Candidates
If you are applying – or thinking of applying – to Wharton’s MBA for Executives program, call us soon to schedule an interview. Don’t wait until you’ve finished your application to schedule an appointment because slots on class days are filling up fast.
Interviews are only required for Fellows EMBA candidates, but we strongly recommend them for traditional students as well. The bottom line is that everyone should schedule an interview.
What should you expect during your interview? Basically, it’s a 45-minute discussion with a member of our Admissions Committee during which you can present yourself in “3D.” You’ll discuss things like how your career has evolved, examples of leadership within or outside of work, and why getting an MBA is important to you.
As for dos and don’ts, here are a few to keep in mind:
- Send an updated resume and feel free to blow your own horn. The admissions interview isn’t a time to be modest.
- Admissions Committee members want a two-way conversation. It’s a great time for you to get your questions answered as well.
- Schedule your interview on a class day so you can get a better feel for our program, observe professors in action and chat with students.
- Dress can be business casual. We want you to be comfortable, especially if you are going to sit in on classes all day.
Applicants to our Philadelphia program should contact our East Coast office to schedule an interview by the application deadline of Feb. 1 and complete the interview no later than March 3. If you’re applying to our San Francisco program, you should contact that office to schedule an interview before the application deadline of Feb. 6 and complete the interview no later than March 10.
